Swiss CO2 tax on flights at par with car drivers gasoline tax

The Swiss parliament lately agreed on taxes of € 28.20 for continental and € 112.80 for intercontinental flights. This tax roughly amounts to the same levies car drivers meet when refuelling their cars covering similar distances. Swiss parliament votes for CO2 tax on air tickets

A step towards tax-justice, Austrian, Germany and other countries have taken as well. However, fixed taxes per passenger per flight do not stimulate airlines to curb their CO2 emissions. It would be much preferable, if these countries could agree to tax airlines to a similar amount via the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS).
